Selective Colouring

I have seen many examples of selective colouring on Flickr. This is a process where the main subject of a photograph is left in colour, while the background is black and white.

I must admit, I didn’t take the following picture with the idea of processing it as a selective colour image. However, when I viewed the photograph on the computer, I thought the image was rather dull and boring. So, I decided to have a play in PhotoShop, and the idea of isolating the train came to mind:

I was rather pleased with the result.

Olympic Stadium in Black and White

I have taken many pictures of the Olympic Stadium, but the actual building work was completed many months ago. As a result, it has been difficult to get an original picture.

On my recent visit to monitor the progress, I decided to take a picture from the platform of Pudding Mill Lane Station. This is the closest station to the Olympic Stadium, but during the Olympics, the station will be closed as it will not be able to cope with the number of people who would want to use it.

Looking at the stadium, the designer has used many geometrical shapes. This coupled with the railways overhead cables, which I used to frame the stadium, gave the image a more of a graphical feel. When it came to processing the image, I thought giving it a black and white treatment would add to the final image:

Commuter #300

Commuter #300, originally uploaded by gary8345.

Dear readers, this is commuter number 300 of my commutergraphy series. After about 18 months, I have decided to end this project.

I am still amazed that I managed to get to 300, and still no one has challenged my regarding me taking their picture. It just proves that we are all in our own little Worlds.

I hope you have enjoyed the photos, and if you have no idea what I have been talking about, you can see all 300 pictures HERE.
